U of T Commuter Plans
U of T Food Services offers Commuter meal plans which can be purchased by students living off-campus, commuter students, or students who don’t have a dining hall in their residence and wish to dine at New College or Chestnut Dining Halls. Commuter Meal Plans are helpful for students who may spend a large portion of their time on campus and want to eat between classes.
Recommended Option: The Chestnut Dining Hall is located 650 meters from Chelsea Residence and their hours of operation can be found at https://chestnut.utoronto.ca/about/dining-hall-meal-plans-food/. By purchasing a Commuter meal plan, you would be able to access this dining hall for all meal periods
Commuter meal plans are declining balance meal plans. This means that your residence dollars are loaded onto your TCard at the beginning of the year, and, as with a debit account, residence dollars in your meal plan account are deducted when you make your food purchases. You’ll have the freedom to choose the items you’d like to eat from a variety of locations across campus allowing you to be able to fully utilize your plan by deciding how and when to you use your plan as it suits you.

If you have questions about this meal plan option, please call the U of T Food Services team at 416-978-1309 or they can be emailed at mealplan@utoronto.ca
Yes! Residents can purchase a meal plan at any time through the meal service website here. Once you have received your meal plan, it will be linked to your Tcard and can be used at participating food services.
If you do not use up all of your meal plan and have a remaining balance, it will be turned into Tbucks. The Tbucks will be linked to your Tcard and you can use it at participating locations
Tbucks are a common form of currency widely accepted across campus. They can be used to buy taxable pre-packaged food items like bags of chips and candy bars, used to purchase textbooks or for printing and photocopying on campus. TBucks can be purchased by anyone holding a T-Card for use on the St. George campus.
Chelsea Hotel Meals Option
For students wishing to arrange a meal plan directly at the Chelsea, the Chelsea Food & Beverage Team can offer for them to fill out an online form which will direct them to a site where they can add a credit card to their room with a credit card authorization form. From there, the billing can work in 2 ways:
- Weekly charges – Any charges through the hotel restaurants will be put through as a room charge and the credit card will be billed out weekly.
- Preset spending limit – If a student wishes to have a preselected value prepaid and not charged weekly, they can do so by indicating that amount while filling out the credit card authorization form. This prepaid amount would be debited as purchases are made until the funds are depleted.
For U of T students, a 20% discount off the menu prices at the sites below will be applied to your meals provided you show proof of enrollment (student ID for example).
