Chestnut… you’re gonna need a bigger boat, because it’s Shark Week!

We’re bringing you some fin-tastic shark themed events, including a movie screening and an exclusive research session using real life shark data.

Movie Night: Shark Boy and Lava Girl
Friday, March 1st, 7pm, Urban

Get together for a viewing of Shark Boy and Lava Girl. Lots of tasty snacks will be provided!

Research Session: Uncover the Secret Lives of Sharks
Sunday, March 3rd, 12 – 3pm

How can you use data science to uncover the secret lives of sharks?

Get hands on research experience using real shark data. You’ll explore methods of data visualisation and learn how to find patterns using machine learning and data science.

For students looking to gain research experience, this is a great starting point. You’ll learn the research process from start to finish, from getting funding and making a change in the world.

This session is led by Dr. Leos Barajas, Assistant Professor, Department of Statistical Sciences and the School of Environment

Lunch will be provided.
