Chestnut Residence Council Elections

Being an Executive of the Chestnut Residence Council allows you to:

  • Play a leadership role in building a strong and joyful student community
  • Develop excellent work experience in event planning, leadership, and budgeting to add to your resume
  • Make your ideas a reality with the budget and support to run fun events
  • Gain experience in politics and navigating big institutions, which are helpful skills for people who have big career aspirations

Being on the executive team requires a commitment of 2 – 6 hours per week, depending on what events you are planning.

You must be planning to live at Chestnut for the 2025-2026 academic year to run

Pick up your nomination form on the Chestnut Residence Council pin board by the lobby elevators during the week of November 3, 2025

Submit your nomination form to the Front Desk by 8pm on Wednesday, November 12. If you submit sooner, you can start campaigning sooner. You can begin campaigning as soon as your nomination form is approved by the Chief Returning Officer. They will send you an email to confirm your nomination has been approved and will also provide you more details on how to campaign.  

All physical (e.g posters) and electronic (e.g. social media) campaign material must be removed by Wednesday, November 12, 8pm or you could be disqualified

How do I vote? 

Voting takes place online through Simply Voting. You will get an email to your U of T email with all the information.

Voting will take place between November 15 – 16, 2025

Executive Roles and Descriptions

Filled for 2025-26

This is a very exciting opportunity and will look great on your resume! You will have lots of support, so if this position sounds interesting to you, take the leap and give it a go.

The President coordinates and oversees all Council activities. They plan Council and Executive meeting. They provide support and guidance to the Executive and Floor Representatives, and act as a liaison between the Residence Life Office and student council. They ensure all Council members fulfill their duties. They sit on various committees of the Council to lead other necessary Council tasks. They sit on various Residence Life Office committees to represent the student voice to Chestnut Residence. They act as a signing authority for Council funds.

Filled for 2025-26

This is a very important role and is best filled by someone who is comfortable using Excel. The VP finance manages the Council’s financial accounts and maintains accurate records as is required by the Office of the Vice Provost. They chair the Finance Committee and prepare and present the annual budget to Council and provide regular financial updates. They make all arrangements for the audit of the Council’s finances. They perform the duties of the President in their absence. They act as a signing authority for Council funds

The VP social organises residence-wide social events to promote residence spirit, including the chairing the semi-formal committee to organise the annual dance. They act as a signing authority for Council funds. They support Council in other areas as needed.

The VP Athletics promotes physical activity and fitness within the Residence by organizing and registering intramural teams and organising sporting activities. They support Council in other areas as needed.

The VP Internal maintains CRC equipment including, but not limited to the Urban ping pong table, the Urban pool table, and music room equipment in collaboration with the Chestnut Assistant Dean Residence Administration. They sit on the Residence Affairs committee to share the student voice with Chestnut Residence staff and relay relevant information back to students at council meetings. They chair the internal commission and are responsible for internal affairs, including leading constitutional updates.

The VP Communications promotes and communicates Council events and manages the Council’s Instagram page. They also maintain the Council’s bulletin boards and support with other event promotion as needed. They support Council in other areas as needed.
