Summer Residence

Chestnut Residence offers student summer housing from May 4 – August 16. 

Our summer residence is open to all students enrolled in a post-secondary institution, including those on a placement, co-op or work term. U of T Alumni and School of Continuing Studies students are also eligible to apply.

Spaces are offered on a first come, first serve basis. There is a minimum booking term of 30 days.

Bedrooms, Dining and Amenities

Chestnut Residence offers single or double* bedrooms with ensuite bathrooms.

All bedrooms include an ensuite bathroom.

Guests also have access to our communal spaces and facilities, including:

  • Gym and fitness studio
  • Laundry room
  • Common rooms with pool, foosball, ping-pong and snack vending machines.
  • Music rooms with piano and drum kit.

Summer Residence fees include daily all-you-care-to-eat breakfast and dinner at the Chestnut Dining Commons.

*Double bedrooms are only available for students who have a pre-selected roommate. To request a double room, please email us at chestnut.residence@utoronto.ca

Our Summer 2024 rates are provided as a reference. Any fees listed on our website are indicative and subject to final approval. Final fee assessments will be conducted in accordance with the applicable policies and guidelines at the University of Toronto. Any changes to fees will be updated by April 2025.

Summer student rates include a mandatory meal plan of breakfast and dinner.

How to Apply

Applications for Summer Residence are made via StarRez.

  • Log in to the StarRez Portal. If you aren’t a U of T student, you will be able to register for an account.
  • Once logged in, click on the Summer tab in the blue menu bar.
  • Scroll down to the Chestnut – Summer 2025 application, and click Apply.

FAQ

Yes! All students enrolled in a post-secondary institution for the summer term, including those on a placement, co-op or work term, are eligible to apply. You do not have to be a University of Toronto student to stay with us during the summer.

Please note: non U of T Students are required to provide proof of student status.

A minimum stay of 30 days is required. You can stay up to four months for full summer stays.

For stays of less than 30 days, you can make a booking with our summer accommodations team via Stay at U of T.

  1. If you applied through StarRez and you are a U of T student

Your first payment must be submitted through the application on Moneris. Once this payment is completed it unlocks the remaining sections of your application. You will pay the remaining balance through your ACORN account.

Any unpaid fees on ACORN on the 15th of each month are subject to service charges.

  1. If you applied through StarRez and you are NOT a U of T student

Your first payment must be submitted through the application on Moneris. Payment for the remaining balance of fees can be made through the Account section of your StarRez portal, located under the hamburger menu at the top left.

Fees balance is due upon or prior to arrival at Chestnut Residence for check-in.

Summer offers are typically sent in early to mid-March. If you meet our eligibility requirements and space permits, you will be contacted by email with an offer.

Yes, meal plans are mandatory at Chestnut Residence.
